History & Community Character

The borough was incorporated in 1924 as South Belmar from part of Wall Township. Voters later approved the name Lake Como, which became official in 2005. The present-day borough remains compact and densely settled, with the lakefront, Main Street and its close relationship with Belmar defining much of its local character.

Lakefront WalksNorth Boulevard and the public lakefront provide a scenic walking route, benches and views across the water.
Young Luterzo Butterfly GardenA small public pollinator garden at Main Street and North Boulevard adds a landscaped gathering point on the lakefront.
Behrman ParkThe borough's principal active-recreation park includes fields and community facilities, with additional park improvements underway through municipal projects.
Community EventsThe borough calendar regularly includes a farmers market, Lake Como Day and seasonal community programs.

Schools

Lake Como maintains a sending relationship with Belmar Elementary School for Pre-K through grade 8 and with Manasquan High School for grades 9–12. Academy Charter High School is a separate public charter high school physically located within Lake Como.
